Family, Friends, Fun..... and Focus...... 2012

I am constantly challenged in the balance of time in my life.

As an artist we tend to hyper focus, as I have grown, I have learned to make time for other things along with my art. The result is a full week of balancing Family, Friends, and Fun time along with my making my art work. I think the hardest part is going from one thing to another and still getting a full focus jump back in to my work at any given moment. I am learning to balance it all much better now. Happy 2012

Today I was asked to post a picture of our blue glaze offered in my Blossom collection, our Great Lakes here in the Eastern United States often grace many blues, I find this representing glaze very soothing and beautiful!

This was a wonderful summer,
my creative zen was in full swing!

I am very pleased with the outcome of my summer efforts.

I enjoyed every minute of summer
and creating at the Cottage Studio.

Inspiration....I always find it at Sweetpea Cottage

The Orange Blossom tree this year was gorgeous and the bees loved it too!
My first items off the wheel were embellished with the beautiful petals and leaves.

Tiny frogs bounced in the raindrops right outside my front screen door and found their way onto a few items too!

As the butterflies began to arrive for the spring so did my creations!

The first firing of these and some special "secret" items will be this weekend appropriate for the 4th of July celebrations!

So many things this year of mine being moved, rearranged and hopefully made more productive in my creative life. After the sewing jag and having to make the room to do it outside of the sewing room, I got a clue that something needed to be done about that. What had been a nice neat sewing room was now a Home Office, Beading Room and Sewing Room with no room to sew. Plus my printers were not in there either, they were over in a cubby area across the house that I was using for my shipping area. Now I have prioritized my talents, and am in the middle of a huge shift and purge. Yay! I am half the way there, I just need to keep the momentum and get it done. Along with that I am trying not to lose focus and keep up on my listings at Etsy like this Leaf custom soap dish. I cant wait to get back into the pottery studio, tons to glaze in there, wish me luck!!

Ancient Faces, Ancient Places

Following my Ancestry has been an interesting and thoughtful journey.

My creations always take on a bit of where I am in life and the path I am on.

These little envelopes have been created while on this journey.

Thoughts of how old the actual clay is and what ancient mysteries must be in the raw clay, wishing for them to be uncovered.

Little Bird

I am often inspired by the nature here at Sweetpea Cottage. This little bowl is one of the newest I have made. This year all of my pottery birdhouses have had bird families! That is so cool because it means they like the dry birdhouse homes I have been making for them. Most are small little brown birds with a beautiful song. They inspired me one day to create more of my bowls. I woke up early this morning to a big surprise! I was lucky this week to be selected by Charan Sachar's "Creative with Clay blog" for his "Color of the week" blog post!

This week he featured the color Chocolate from Etsy.com shops, and the selections are so yummy! I just may have to order a few of the featured items for myself!!

Beautiful Brown Butterfly Porcelain Pendant Necklace

Last Spring, in the late afternoon, everywhere I looked plants were brown and dry from the long Winter. Suddenly, movement caught my eye. A small brown butterfly was stretching its wings in the Michigan sunlight. I wanted to capture this moment of hope, and immediately returned to my studio to craft the beautiful brown butterfly pendant you see here. After the firing process I created this beautiful necklace. I was taking a walk in the warm, Spring sunshine, when I came across a robin's nest, that was hidden snugly in the branches of a tree. I decided to take a peek in the nest, and found three beautiful speckled blue eggs. I was inspired by the sight and went to the studio to create the beautiful nest ring dish you see here.

I never really thought my baking and pottery was in any way related till tonight, I was filling the kiln and taking my pie out of the oven.... :) And it hit me, hmm my Apple pear pie and Leaf soap dishes look related! My husband says as long as I don't get the two mixed up we will be ok :)

Heading back from the cottage now, we have had a super summer! I learned a ton from a few mis fires and the new low fire clay and glazes. The end results are just great and I cant wait to list them on Etsy when I get home. I'll post a photo of one of the new tiles for the SC gallery.
